Ingredients
- One inch cubed jackfruit pieces: 150 gms Split Blackgram: 100 gm Half ripen papaya pieces: 70 gms Onion paste: 2 medium Ginger paste: 1 ½ tsps Garlic paste: 2 tsps
- Mustard oil: 3 tbsps Bay leaves: 2 Dry chillies: 3 Paanch phuron: ½ tsp Cumin powder: ½ tsp Coriander powder: ½ tsp
- Garam masala powder: ½ tsp Pure ghee: 2 tsps Turmeric powder: 1 level tsp Salt: to taste Water: 500 ml
Method
Step 1
Soak the split blackgram for about 4 hours. Wash the dal. Boil the dal till soft. Boil the jackfruit pieces. In a karai heat the mustard oil. Temper with bay leaves, dry chillies and paanch phuron.
Step 2
Add the onion paste and fry stirring continuously for about half a minute. Add the ginger and garlic paste and fry till oil floats to the top. Add the papaya pieces and stir for about a minute. Add cumin powder, coriander powder and turmeric powder. Also add sugar and stir fry awhile by sprinkle water twice.
Step 3
Add the boiled jackfruit pieces and stir for awhile. Add the hot dal , sugar and salt to taste. Cook covered for about 2 minutes. Remove cover and add garam masala powder. Stir and cover. Switch off the gas. After 2 minutes add the pure ghee. Stir and serve with puri or rice.
